Wolf willow beads are individually handmade by Heather. She harvests the berries in February following traditional Indigenous harvesting protocols before processing the seeds into polished beads. Her technique of hand-polishing results in a finer bead, with less cracking which can make the beads uncomfortable to wear. Wolf willow seeds, when worn every day, will accumulate the essence of the wearer and develop a unique shine and patina.
When creating her beaded jewellery designs, Heather treats each piece with the same delicate stringing process she was trained to use with restringing pearl necklaces. This means knotting each segment, in the event of the string breaking, only a few beads will come loose, and the rest of the necklace stays intact.
With all beaded jewellery, restringing will be required depending on the frequency it is worn and the lifestyle of the wearer. Heather offers this service, free of charge to anyone who purchases her jewellery.
